Independent reader-run reference about Rowbuy. Not Rowbuy, not its operator, no account access. Who writes the Pairbook

Rowbuy Spreadsheet Pairbook

Rowbuy money pairs: the two payments, the two fees, the two currencies

Six pairs about money. Rowbuy calls its costs "three transparent parts" and splits payment into two moments; most surprises on a Rowbuy bill come from reading one of those as the other.

Goods payment versus freight payment

Goods payment

Item price plus the seller's delivery inside China. Paid when you submit the order.

Cart and order screen

Freight payment

The international line. Paid after QC, when you submit the consolidated parcel.

Swap costbudgeting only for the first bill, then leaving items in storage because the second one was not planned.

Rowbuy's payment article is short and exact: "There are two payments in a typical order." The first covers what the seller charges and what the seller's courier charges to reach the Rowbuy warehouse. The second covers the trip abroad, and it cannot be known at checkout, because nothing has been weighed yet.

The gap between them is the part new buyers forget. Items wait while the seller ships, while the warehouse receives them, while you look at QC photos and while you collect enough items for a sensible parcel. A buyer who orders five $3 items and expects to be done at $15 meets a second bill that can be larger than the first. Plan both numbers at the start: the weight calculator gives a rough freight figure before you buy anything.

Service fee and shipping fee

Service fee

Rowbuy's agent fee for purchasing, handling, QC and warehousing.

Swap costassuming the shipping quote is the whole cost of using Rowbuy, or that "free QC photos" means no agent fee at all.

Rowbuy's fee article lists three parts: goods cost, service fee and international shipping. Two of them have public numbers. Goods cost: printed on the listing. Freight can be estimated on the public estimator, and the line prices behind it are what our calculator uses.

The service fee is the one we could not price. The help article says it pays for purchasing, handling, QC and warehousing; it gives no percentage and no flat amount, and none of the other public pages we read did either. That does not mean it is high or low. It means you should ask support for the figure before a large order, and read your first checkout carefully for a line you did not expect. If your total looks heavier than goods plus freight, this is the line to look for.

Headline price and product amount

Headline price

The large figure under the title, in yuan with Rowbuy's dollar conversion. Usually the cheapest option.

Top of the product page

Product amount

The total beside the Add to Cart button. Follows the option currently selected.

Bottom panel, next to "Domestic freight"

Swap costordering the default option and paying more than the search price; on one tote it was 61 per cent more.

On October 24 we opened forty-five Rowbuy product pages for this site. On thirty-nine, the headline and the product amount matched. On six they did not. The largest gap was a cotton work jacket: headline CNY 389.08, shown as $57.43, while the option Rowbuy had pre-selected totalled $73.33. A panda tote showed $2.08 at the top and $3.36 at the bottom.

The reason is ordinary. Chinese listings advertise the lowest-priced option, and Rowbuy's page loads with the first option in the seller's menu already ticked, which is often not the cheapest. Pick the colour and size you actually want, then read the product amount. That is the number the goods payment will use, plus the domestic freight shown beside it.

CNY on the listing, USD on the bill

CNY

The seller's price in Chinese yuan, the number that actually changes hands in China.

USD

What Rowbuy bills you. Rowbuy says it bills in USD and needs no Chinese payment account.

Product page, right of it; checkout

Swap costcomparing a yuan price from a Taobao app with a dollar price on Rowbuy and thinking one is a bargain.

Every Rowbuy product page prints both: "CNY 15.16 ≈ $ 2.24". The header switch on the site we used read "English / USD". On October 21 Rowbuy's exchange-rate feed listed 1 CNY at 0.1476 USD, and the product pages we checked three days later matched that rate to the fourth decimal.

What the feed does not say is how the rate is set or how often it moves. There is no published explanation, so do the simple check yourself: take the dollar number on any product page, split it by the yuan number, and hold the result against a public rate on the same day. Your card issuer may add its own foreign-transaction charge on top, which Rowbuy has no control over and which will not appear on the Rowbuy bill.

New-user coupon bundle and Lucky Wheel coupon

New-user coupon bundle

Arrives when you register. Lowers the cost of the first parcel. Applied at checkout when eligible.

Account coupons page

Lucky Wheel coupon

A spin, not a gift: one for typing any influencer's invite code when registering, one per delivered parcel. Prizes cut international shipping by a tenth up to two fifths.

Spin-wheel event terms page

Swap costexpecting a wheel spin from registering without a code, or stacking a wheel prize on top of another discount on one parcel.

Rowbuy's account article promises the bundle "as soon as you register". It does not say how much the bundle is worth, and neither does the homepage welcome note. The wheel is a separate event with its own terms page. Six prize sizes run from a tenth off international shipping to two fifths off; each coupon covers one parcel and the terms rule out stacking.

Both lower the freight payment, not the goods payment. Neither changes the service fee. If you are comparing Rowbuy with another agent on price, compare the second payment with and without the bundle; a percentage coupon is worth more on a heavy parcel than on a light one. Rowbuy's wheel terms are the place to check before you spin.

Top-up balance and card at checkout

Top-up balance

Money you load into the Rowbuy account first, then spend on bills.

Account: top up

Card at checkout

An international credit or debit card charged for one bill, in USD.

Checkout payment choices

Swap costtopping up for a parcel that ends up cheaper, or retrying a declined card instead of calling the bank.

Rowbuy lists both routes in its payment article: you "top up or pay" with methods shown at checkout, and its card article adds that the card must allow international and online payments. The footer shows PayPal, Visa and Mastercard marks, but the help pages name only cards, so treat PayPal as something to confirm at checkout rather than a promise.

Which is better depends on how many bills you expect. One order, one parcel: pay each bill by card and nothing sits in the account. Several small orders over a month: a balance saves repeated card authorisations, at the cost of leaving money parked with a company whose two operator names you should read about in the Rowbuy file.
